After many years of trial-and-error testing, these detailing products are what we have personally found to work best for dealing with a variety of scenarios and circumstances. We have to use our detailing setup in many different locations across multiple states and climates, so we have encountered almost every problem that you might face. These products have stood our own "durability test", which says a lot!
Washing and Drying
These are what we find works best when washing and drying your trailer or vehicle
P&S Bug Off
Diluted 1:1, this bug remover is by far the best we've ever used. Simply spray it on the surface, let dwell for around 30 seconds and rinse off (works best with high pressure water from pressure washer)
All Purpose Cleaner
Diluted 10:1, This all purpose cleaner will take off most of the grit and grime on your trailer without the need for scrubbing. Simply spray on, let sit for about 30 seconds and spray off (works best with high pressure water from pressure washer)
Eulex (Tar Remover)
Eulex (Tar Remover) is some seriously powerful stuff, and it ACTUALLY WORKS! We recommend using gloves when working with this. Put a little bit of Eulex on a small section of a microfiber rag and start gently wiping the tar, after a few seconds the tar will start to melt and come off of the surface. Make sure to thoroughly rinse the sections to avoid any damage to the surface.
Wash Mitts
These super soft wash mitts will help prevent scratching and marring of the surface. Make sure to rinse the mitt out thoroughly after every use to help maintain that soft texture. Machine wash and dry when possible.
Drying Towel
We've tested countless numbers of drying towels over the years, this towel is by far our favorite and has stood the test of time. To help keep this towel soft and plush, machine wash and dry on low heat after each use, don't use fabric softener.
Little Giant Ladder
The first and only ladder we've had. Built from lightweight aluminum, these ladders are relatively portable, easy to move around, and paired with the leveling jacks they can be used on un-level surfaces! We've been using this ladder every day for the better part of 4 years and can't think of one complaint with it.
Little Giant Plank
When you have two of the Little Giant ladders, you can pair them easily with this scaffolding plank to enable safe and easy access to the roof of your trailer. This plank provides 6 ft of walking area alongside your trailer, perfect when spending time compounding or polishing the roof or front cap.
Microfiber Wash Mop
This wash mop is a true time saver, paired with the extension pole it comes with you should be able to reach just about everything. Make sure to rinse the mop out thoroughly after every use to help maintain that soft texture. Machine wash and dry when possible.
Portable Water Heater
By far one of our favorite tools to date is this portable water heater. When pressure washing bugs, tar, bird droppings or anything else you can think of off your trailer, warm water is going to be your best friend. We've been using the InstaHot water heater for over 3 years and it's still going strong after being toted across the country.
Paint Correction Tools and Compounds
Over the past few years, we have tested many different products for compounding and polishing both gelcoat and clearcoat, we have found these products to work the best.
For Heavy Oxidation
Dewalt Corded Rotary
This corded rotary tool is powerful, making it one of the best tools to remove oxidation from the surface. When using a rotary buffer, make sure to constantly move the machine and not sit in one place for too long or you risk the chance of burning the gelcoat.
White Wool Buffing Pads
When facing heavy oxidation, you will need to use a high-quality wool cutting pad on the rotary polisher. This pad provides a larger working area and plenty of cutting power to remove even the heaviest oxidation.
3M Heavy Compound
You will need a heavy cutting compound to use on the wool pad, there are so many compounds out there, and we have tried almost all of them. In our experience, none can cut through oxidation on gelcoat like the 3M Heavy cutting compound on the wool pad.
Step 1
Dewalt Cordless Polisher
If your trailer has no oxidation, or if you removed it in the heavy cutting step you can use the cordless random orbital polisher to finish out the gelcoat to a better than new condition. This polisher provides easy maneuverability and the most even looking finish.
Dewalt 6Ah Batteries
The 6 Ah batteries provide plenty of working time for polishing your trailer or vehicle. If you prefer a lighter weight option, you can go to the 5Ah battery. You will need a couple of batteries to swap out to when you need to recharge.
Microfiber Cutting Disc
This microfiber cutting disc is the perfect balance between cutting power and smooth finishing. This pad when paired with the cutmax compound will remove most swirl marks or light oxidation. Be sure to clean off the pad frequently between polishing passes using a pad cleaning tool.
Sonax CutMax
We have really liked using the CutMax cutting compound for years because of its effectiveness on gelcoat or clear coat, and because it produces almost no dust, unlike most other cutting compounds of this strength.
Step 2
Orange Foam Pad
The orange pad on the cordless polisher is the final finishing step in the polishing process. This has very light cutting power when you use it with the Sonax polish but provides excellent clarity and shine on Gel coat!
Sonax EX 04-06
This is one of the most versatile polishes we have used and that is why we always keep it on hand. It can be used as the final step when correcting gel coat, or the perfect correcting polish for vehicles.
